Vice Presidential Choice

Sarah Palin brings a breath of fresh air to the national political scene. She represents a new face embraced by an American public that is dissatisfied with both the President and the Congress of the United States.

Congress and the President have record low approval rates because the nation is fed up with the good-old-boys running the Federal Government for their own selfish purposes. Here is an attractive young lady, the embodiment of Americana, who brings hope to all of us, Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, that there is a real chance for authentic change in politics.

Senators McCain, Biden, and even Obama are from the establishment, the clique, the beltway. There are some, who will argue that Barrack Obama isn’t part of the establishment. Actually, he is a product of the Chicago Democratic machine, was ordained by Ted Kennedy and the Democratic Establishment to full membership in the club to counter act the Clinton takeover of the party. In his short career in the Senate, he carefully hewed to the party line and feasted in the trough of pork/earmarks like all the other career politicians in Congress seeking to guarantee their re-election. John McCain, though part of the establishment, has always been somewhat of a maverick by not completely adhering to the party dictates. His selection of Sarah Palin as his vice presidential candidate is a further example of his non-compliance to party politics.

Sarah Palin has experience in Alaskan politics as a successful anti-establishment proponent, with none of the baggage of years in the beltway - obligated to special interests, and imbued with making a career of politics. She brings hope that there will be more new men and women running for national public offices, whose sole intention is serving their country and not their own self-interests.

I couldn’t disagree more with your arguments for Sarah Palin. It’s not a “breath of fresh air” that Palin brings to the national political scene; it’s a gale-force wind of inadequacies. And please, don’t project to us all that she is “the embodiment of Americana,” because for me, she definitely is not. Palin is unqualified as a vice presidential candidate because, by her own admission, she doesn’t even know what a vice president does. When asked about Iraq, she responded that she hasn’t focused on the war. In a Michigan town hall meeting on Sept. 17, where she and John McCain appeared together, a female audience member asked for Palin’s ideas about international affairs. Palin side stepped the question and her chance to tell the audience—and indeed the world—her views. Instead, she stated simply “I am prepared.” It appears her lack of experience leaves her with one choice—to offer by rote memory the answers to questions fed to her by the committee.

Palin’s political, religious, and personal views do not represent all women. Her gun-toting, animal-killing, wildlife refuge oil-drilling, bridge-to-NO-choice views are frightening. And, furthermore, I’m appalled at your reference to Palin as “an attractive young lady.” It’s sexist and degrading and not in anyone’s interest to write such comments.

I happen to like the arguments FOR Sarah Palin. As far as who has the more experience between her and Obama, I believe you would have to say that she has more “real-life” working experience from being a mayor and governor. The media has crucified her right from the start. She is strong, focused, determined, manages budgets, issues, family and also happens to take care of herself — running. (She looks terrific after having five kids, by the way.) I think because she is “pro life”, has traditional values, believes in God and our country and our rights as U.S. citizens — plus a nice personality to boot that the “left” CAN’T stand her. Very sad that she has been judged unmercilessly. Whereas Barack Obama has skated on by with the press acting as a campaign crew. What are his accomplishments in his career? Why do we think he would be better in foreign affairs than Sarah, when he has had no experience either? A senator, you say. What has he voted on?? Who is he, anyhow???

My father fought in WWII and the Korean War as a dive bomber, and he fought for this wonderful country. I don’t want to see the U.S. go so far to the left that it becomes the USSR (United States of SOCIALIST Republics).
